A special task-force collaboration by AAHKS members Stefano A. Bini, MD, Craig J. Della Valle, MD, Mark I. Froimson, MD, Charles P. Hannon, MD and Brett R. Levine, MD has produced a comprehensive source of education to address the opioid epidemic in the United States. Content from the AAHKS position statement on opioid use for the treatment of arthritis pain and the new patient education piece, “Opioid Use Before Hip or Knee Surgery Can Mean Trouble,” was used to create this user-friendly Web page. Information presented is targeted towards patients considering taking opioids or currently using opioids for osteoarthritis pain as well as to physicians and other providers caring for them. Visitors can also access other resources from American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration. Visit the page and share with patients and colleagues!
