What Patients are Reading: NSAIDs, OA and Cardiovascular Risk

A study published this month in Arthritis and Rheumatology concluded that nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) may elevate the cardiovascular risk for patients with osteoarthritis. “Patients with OA were nearly 25% more likely than patients without OA to develop CVD (adjusted hazard ratio [HR], 1.23; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.17 – 1.28). The researchers estimate that 41% of the increased CVD risk in those with OA was related to NSAID use,” according to a report by Medscape. Full story.
