A study published in The Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery compares payment margins between the Bundled Payments for Care Improvement Initiative (BPCI) and the Comprehensive Care for Joint Replacement Model (CJR) with the conclusion that CJR is causing a reduction in savings. Orthopedics Today summarizes the study and includes perspectives from Michael P. Bolognesi, MD, AAHKS President, and James I. Huddleston, MD, AAHKS Advocacy Chair. “We know that efforts made by knee and hip arthroplasty surgeons to participate in and support CJR and BCPI programs has led to notable savings for CMS and we are hopeful these programs can remain a viable way for us to keep working to decrease health care expenditures,” said Dr. Bolognesi.
