Clarivate Web of Science has released their Journal Citation Reports 2020. Although there are a number of companies that rate the impact of scientific journals, Clarivate’s impact factor has received the most notoriety. The Journal of Arthroplasty (JOA), the official journal of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, was informed that the Clarivate impact factor for 2019 is 3.709 which is an increase from 3.524 in 2018. Over the last eight years, our impact factor has improved from 2.384 to 3.709 (over a 55% increase).
We produce 60% of the hip and knee content of the top six orthopaedic journals that publish content in our field. For comparison, publications in 2017 and 2018 (used to calculate the 2019 Impact Factor) were 1,383 for JOA versus 604, 483 and 432 from Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, Bone and Joint Journal and Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research respectively.
We appreciate all the support of AAHKS members who submit their quality work to JOA for consideration and the members who spend tireless hours as the most punctual reviewers in orthopaedics. Congratulations to all for helping the JOA be so successful. Finally, we are always looking for new reviewers. If interested, please reach out to Taylor Bowen at journalofarthroplasty@gmail.com.
