What Patients are Reading: Discharge to Home after TJR

Every Day Health featured an article for patients that highlighted research presented at the AAOS Annual Meeting. “Home Beats Rehab for Knee, Hip Replacement Recovery,” explains that the study by past President William J. Hozack, MD and colleagues concluded that “patients who go straight home from the hospital following hip or knee replacement surgery recover as well as, or better than, those who first go to a rehabilitation center.” In an interview with Dr. Hozack, he explained that 90% of his patients are discharged directly to home following surgery and most do just as well as they would have if discharged to a rehabilitation facility.
