Thorsten M. Seyler, MD, PhD, FARE Grant recipient, is seeking more institutions to join the Duke University prospective, randomized study, “Perioperative Antibiotic Prophylaxis in Patients Undergoing Elective Total Knee Arthroplasty.” The study’s goal is to establish level I evidence for single-dose versus 24-hour antibiotic prophylaxis in elective primary total knee arthroplasty and is based on the most recent release of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention Guideline for the Prevention of Surgical Site Infection, 2017. The study will also analyze confounding factors including antibiotic cement, drain, suture and dressing use.
