Under the joint leadership of First Vice President Jay Lieberman, MD and Quality Measures Subcommittee Chair David Mauerhan, MD the Hip Arthroplasty Quality Measures Work Group met on Saturday, August 16 in Rosemont. AAHKS formed the Work Group to identify and define quality measures to improve outcomes for patients undergoing a hip arthroplasty. This project is utilizing the expertise of practicing orthopaedic surgeons and other clinicians to create explicit, valid, and feasible quality measures that can be used to monitor and improve the quality of orthopaedic care. The quality of care measures evaluate appropriate preoperative, intraoperative, postoperative care and outcomes which are critical to improving patient function and quality of life.
