White Papers on Digital Health Topics

Published November 2018

3D Printing

3D printing technology has revolutionized prototypical design engineering with applications to
orthopaedic surgery.

Blockchain

Blockchain applications in health care include patient medical records, clinical trials and registries and insurance authorizations and claims.

Holograms

Current medical applications of holography are approaching widespread use such as in teaching and training. Converting MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds and other imaging modalities into 3D reconstructions also already exist.

Mixed Reality

Mixed reality refers to the combining or blending of real‐world objects, people and scenarios with the virtual world. The most obvious benefits of this technology in health care are in enhanced training.

Patient Engagement Platforms

Patient engagement combines a patient’s knowledge, skills, ability and willingness to manage his or her own health and care with interventions designed to increase activation and promote positive patient behavior.

Robotics

Robotics in orthopaedics are tools which provides information to the surgeon and aid in performing precise bone cuts. Used correctly, they may provide improved outcomes and operating room efficiency.

Telehealth

The most common application of telehealth technologies in orthopaedics is the virtual visits that are being delivered by physicians to patients in remote locations or for whom travelling is problematic.
