AAHKS has developed a visiting fellow program with the Chinese Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (CAOS). AAHKS leadership attended the CAOS meeting in the spring of 2015 and interviewed about forty pre-selected candidates for the program. The candidates were very well qualified and excited about this opportunity.

From the pre-selected pool, representatives of AAHKS and CAOS selected 18 fellows who were assigned to nine U.S. host institutions that volunteered for the program. Each fellow is coming to the U.S. for three-month visits in the first half of 2016.

Host institutions will have a minimum of 20 cases per week and have weekly conferences that include preoperative planning and management of complications. The fellows are interested in not only the surgery but also indications, planning, perioperative management and post hospital discharge care.

The goal of this partnership is to help train individuals that have the capacity to return to China, develop quality joint replacement programs and become leaders in the field of hip and knee arthroplasty.
