Dr. Lieberman Takes Office as 25th President of AAHKS

Las Vegas – Jay R. Lieberman, MD took office as the 25th President of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) during their Board of Directors meeting in Las Vegas on Wednesday, March 25, 2015 and will serve for one year.
He assumes leadership of the organization as it prepares to mark its 25th Anniversary at the AAHKS Annual Meeting this November. “I am honored to be the leader of this association during its 25th Anniversary and I plan to continue our mission as delineated by my predecessors to enhance the profession of hip and knee surgery in order to benefit our patients,” said Dr. Lieberman.
Dr. Lieberman is professor and chair of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and director of the institute of Orthopaedics at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California (USC). He is an internationally renowned total joint replacement surgeon who has a special interest in the treatment of osteonecrosis (bone death) of the hip and knee. He is a member of The Hip Society, The Knee Society and International Hip Society. He was the inaugural editor for the highly popular AAOS Comprehensive Orthopaedic Review. He is co-editor of two books for the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons on surgical techniques related to total hip and knee Arthroplasty, and he is co-editor of a textbook on hip surgery. Dr. Lieberman has also been named to the Best Doctors of America list and Top Doctors in America multiple times.
Dr. Lieberman’s clinical research interests are related to improving outcomes after total joint arthroplasty, osteonecrosis of the hip and knee and venous thromboembolic prophylaxis. His basic science research focus is on the development of regional gene therapy to enhance bone repair and understanding the role of growth factors in influencing the biological activity of stem cells.
Dr. Lieberman has published more than 200 manuscripts, book chapters and reviews. He has won numerous awards including the Frank Stinchfield Hip Society Award, the Marshall Urist Award in recognition of his contribution to the field of tissue engineering, and the prestigious Elizabeth Winston Lanier Kappa Delta Award for his pioneering work related to the development of regional gene therapy to enhance bone repair.
