A study presented at this week’s American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Annual Meeting looked at data from more than 1 million hip and knee replacement surgeries between 2006 and 2013 to determine if race and insurance type play a role in the anesthesia a patient receives. According to the ASA, “Patients who are black, Hispanic, on Medicaid or are uninsured may be less likely to receive regional anesthesia during hip and knee replacement surgery.” Full story.
