In an interview with Medscape, Susan Goodman, MD describes in-depth the process that took place to develop the new guideline, “2017 American College of Rheumatology/American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons Guideline for the Perioperative Management of Antirheumatic Medication in Patients with Rheumatic Diseases Undergoing Elective Total Hip or Total Knee Arthroplasty.” Dr. Goodman explains how ACR and AAHKS had been thinking along the same lines of whether adverse outcomes of patients with rheumatoid arthritis could be modified with perioperative medication management.
