AAHKS Submits CMS RFI on Patients Over Paperwork Initiative

This week, AAHKS responded to the Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services’ (CMS) Request for Information (RFI): Reducing Administrative Burden to Put Patients over Paperwork. Our comments included discussion of the “significant confusion among providers and program auditors” that arises when high volume procedures such as total hip (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) are removed from the CMS inpatient only (IPO) list. CMS is currently considering removing total hip arthroplasty from the IPO list. Also discussed were burdens for reporting and delays related to the Stark Law that need updating. AAHKS provided input on an opioid prescriber outlier communication program, which is part of the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery & Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients & Communities Act that was passed in October 2018.
