The CMS Innovation Center will open a new enrollment period for Bundled Payments for Care Improvement (BPCI) Advanced, which started on October 1, 2018 and runs through December 31, 2023. The new application period will open this month for participation in Model Year 3 starting January 1, 2020.
In addition, BPCI Advanced currently includes 32 bundled clinical episodes (29 inpatient and 3 outpatients). CMS has announced that for Model Year 3, they will include an outpatient total knee arthroplasty (TKA) bundle. While no additional details are available at this time, AAHKS expects that this will help with the issues that have arisen from the removal of TKA from the inpatient only list by building criteria for outpatient TKA, which we have been requesting since before the announcement of the IPO removal.
