The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is hosting a series of listening sessions related to implementing the Substance Use-Disorder Prevention that Promotes Opioid Recovery & Treatment (SUPPORT) for Patients & Communities Act of 2018. Starting in 2021, this law will require CMS to send annual notifications to providers that have been identified as “outliers” in opioid prescribing practices for outpatient prescriptions for Medicare beneficiaries. CMS is seeking input on how best to determine “medical specialty, geographic area and outlier prescriber” definitions. AAHKS participated in an in-person CMS Listening Session with other medical associations, and you can read the summary here. CMS is inviting physicians and other health care providers who can prescribe opioids to a webinar on Tuesday, September 17 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. (EDT). Register for the webinar.
