Doctors Hopeful AVN Avoided for Alabama’s Quarterback

After suffering a dislocated right hip in the University of Alabama vs. Mississippi State University football game last week, NFL draft hopeful Tua Tagovailoa, had surgery to repair a posterior wall fracture on Monday. A discussion from the medical team was featured in USA Today including Walter Lowe, MD, Chairman of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth and Medical Director of the Memorial Hermann where the quarterback had his surgery. According to Dr. Lowe, a quick response on the field to “reduce” the dislocation immediately may have helped prevent avascular necrosis (AVN); however, it will be months before this can be ruled out.
