A pilot program launched earlier this year by the Geisinger Health System in Pennsylvania pledges to cover costs of follow-up care for total hip replacement patients for the rest of their lives. The AMA Wire published an interview with Michael Suk, MD, chair of the Geisinger Musculoskeletal Institute and department of orthopaedic surgery this week. The article points out that when the program started, it was “based on orthopedic protocols already in place that had been shown to reduce readmissions 50 percent and hospital lengths of stay by 10 percent.” Full story.
