Jorge O. Galante, MD died in his home on Sanibel Island in Florida on February 9, 2017. Dr. Galante was a founding member of AAHKS – joining when the association started in 1991. According to his obituary in the Chicago Tribune, Galante revolutionized the field by developing a porous metal fiber coating for prosthetic devises to allow natural bone growth to fix the device in the patient’s bone. The Miller-Galante Knee and the Harris-Galante Hip implant system were his legacy. A trainee of Sir John Charnley, Dr. Galante was also the first chairman of orthopaedic surgery at what is now known as Rush University Medical CenterFull story.
