“As a surgery journal editor, I pledge to strive for diversity in the peer review process
and among the editorial boards and editorial leaders.”

A call from Melina R. Kibbe, MD, FACS, FAHA, Journal of the American Medical Association Surgery Editor in Chief, to fellow surgery journal editors asked for a commitment to the above pledge. The initiative was started after an article in the Journal of Vascular Surgery was published with implicit bias. “A more diverse editorial peer review process would likely have detected this,” said Dr. Kibbe. Both John J. Callaghan, MD, Journal of Arthroplasty Editor in Chief and Gregory J. Golladay, MD, Arthroplasty Today Editor in Chief, joined their peers in signing pledge.
