A study published this week in the New England Journal of Medicine, “Aspirin or Rivaroxaban for VTE Prophylaxis after Hip or Knee Arthroplasty,” sought to compare aspirin with direct oral anti-coagulants for prophylaxis beyond hospital discharge. According to an article in Orthopedics Today, “No significant difference was seen between extended prophylaxis with aspirin and [rivaroxaban] in the prevention of symptomatic venous thromboembolism after total hip or knee arthroplasty.” Full story.
